The mountains blanketed in snow offers much more than just skiing and snowboarding, as you may explore the beauty and magic of the region with snowshoeing or snowmobiling or thorough Catskill Mountain snow tubing, it is up to you.

Now, let me take you through the whole bunch of different winter activities to choose from in the Catskill Mountains, trust me you will fall in love with the mountains after reading this blog as the options are endless.

Embracing the Winter Wonderland of Catskills

Catskills attractions in winter are one of the most beautiful sights you could ever witness, mountains covered in a blanket of snow and landscaped filled with snow, creating a picturesque winter wonderland. Hitting the slopes for a thrilling skiing or snowboarding experience, wandering through the scenic trails for snowshoeing or winter hiking and at the end of the day, cozying up by the warm fireplace in a beautiful cabin in the woods. Winter is truly magical in the charming Catskills.

Moreover, during my winter days at Catskills, I’ve had the perfect opportunity to take part in all of the unique snowy fun with my family as there is no skill or age requirement for any of them. Not gonna lie, but you will experience the best winter days of your life at Catskills.

Catskill Mountain Skiing: Cross Country Skiing

Cross Country skiing in the Catskills was definitely a fantastic choice made by me as the region offers some of the best trails with beautiful sceneries. I was able to view some timid woodland creatures, rediscover the joy of playing in the snow and experience some stunning trails of cross country skiing in Catskills

The Green County offers more than 705,500 acres of wilderness for skiing in the mountains with trails softly snow carpeted along with awesome views of the Catskill peaks. There are many Catskill XC skiing centers and among them, my favorite ones are:

Mountain Trails Cross Country Ski Center Northern Catskills Park
Rochester Hollow in Big Indian Southern Catskills Park
Belleayre Mountain Ski Area Southern Catskills Park
Kelly Hollow Balsam Mountain Wild Forest
Catskill ski center/ Bobcat ski center Delaware County

Night Skiing in Catskills is also a popular activity and it was one of the most unique experiences I’ve had so far. There some amazing places I’ve visited for this thrilling experience in the mountains and they provide the best night skiing experience:

Catamount Ski Area 78 Catamount Rd, Hillsdale, NY 12529
Mohawk Mountain Ski Area 46 Great Hollow Rd, Cornwall, CT 06753
Windham Mountain Club 19 Resort Dr, Windham , NY 12496

Cross Country Skiing in Catskills, NY can be a tad bit intimidating for first time experiencers. The region had mixed conditions with snow, ice and slush during my recent visit, the upper elevations can be difficult and the uphill may require side-stepping and most of the times causes sliding back too.

However, I’ve found  downhills extremely fun with speed picking up but sometimes scary too. Make sure you always follow the rules and safety regulations.

Catskill Snowshoeing Adventures

Even if you are a starter, the Great Northern Catskill of Green County is perfect for you to awaken to the adventure. Snowshoeing in these regions can be extremely fun as I was able to view the beautiful surroundings along with taking some good snaps of the winter wilderness too. However, there might be some difficulties while snowshoeing in Catskills such as it can be a bit challenging in deep snow or on steep terrain.

Also, I just love the trails for snowshoeing and winter hiking in Catskills as there are a wide variety of them present right for us adventure lovers. Here are the best spots among them:

Mountain Trails Cross Country Ski Center 6198 Main St, Tannnersville, NY 12485
Windham Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Center 19, Resort Dr, Windham, NY 12496
Frost Valley YMCA 2000 Frost Valley Road Claryville, NY 12725

Snowmobiling in Catskills: Chasing Adrenaline with Snow

You are about to experience an absolute blast. Yes that’s right, the Snowmobiling experience in the heart of Upstate New York will definitely be a completely unique experience you’ve ever had as I’ve spent more time in Snowmobiling in the Catskills than any other winter sport. It is an extremely captivating sensation which will attract you more and more.

Also, in Catskills, snowmobile trails can be relatively flat yet muddy. Trails are usually marked with orange and red markers but still sometimes the fallen trees might make it hard to follow. Now, here are some of the best snowmobile rentals in Catskills

Rip Van Winkle Ranch Haines Falls, NY
Arctic Adventures Rosendale NY
RPM Snowmobile Ranch Thendara, NY
Adirondack Sport Center Boonville, NY

Sliding Experience with Catskill Mountain Snow Tubing

The winter fun isn’t just skiing or snowboarding, you may experience the best out of the snowy mountains with these large inflated donuts. I would often visit Ski areas in Catskills along with my family for snow tubing fun.

It is such a bliss to slide through the snow with our loved ones and the best part is you don’t require any kind of skills for it. Here are some of the ideal  spots in Catskills for snow tubing:

Bearpen Mountain Snow Tubing Prattsville, NY
Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun Park Monticello, NY
Hunter Mountain Hunter, NY
Windham Mountain Adventure Park Windham, NY

Carving through Snow with Snowboarding in Catskills

The best way to view the breathtaking mountain views while carving down the slopes and catch some air in the terrain parks of Catskills.
