Once you visit the park, you just can’t resist visiting back. 

Situated in Greentown, Promised Land is home to two beautiful lakes, exciting hiking trails more than 50 miles, camping & picnic spots alongside the beauty of stunning forests and wildlife. Nature’s paradise doesn’t end with them, one could never miss the winter fun in it. The state park is all open for us to explore, the area boasting over 15,000 acres between the park and Delaware State Forest is awaiting you.

This charming park in Monroe country is one of my very first go to destinations in Poconos. If you are wondering why, then trust me, this part will clear all your intriguing concerns. From everlasting fun to serene Promised Land Campground in Pennsylvania, let’s go through all of them. Shall we?

Discovering the Beauty of Promised Land Park, PA

Before heading straight on to the fun and adventures, let’s take a moment to take in the beauty and serenity of the Promised Land. Nestled in the scenic mountains of Poconos, the park offers many picturesque landscapes of lush forests, rolling hills and glazing lakes. 

You may immerse yourself in the nature lover’s paradise with the tranquil surroundings. The forest filled with beech, maples, oaks and hemlocks, Promised land lake in PA and small streams, wildlife and wildflowers, all together enhances the outstanding authenticity of the park.  

Aquatic Adventures of Promised Land in Poconos, PA

Promised Land, home to two lakes which spreads 422 acres and 173 acres on the lower, made the spot a favorite pick for me when it comes to water sports and exhilarating aquatic fun. 

Have you ever tried fishing in these spots? If you haven’t then it is time for you to shoot your line and find many splendid fish species like catfish, yellow perch, pickerel, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and sunfish. Not only them, I was lucky enough to find brook, brown and rainbow trout in the lower lake during season. 

If you are planning any family activities in Poconos, boating in the serene waters of the Promised Land in Pennsylvania can be a unique experience for everyone. One may bring their own boats or could rent one out easily from the boat rentals in the region. There is much for everyone, kayaks, canoes, rowboats, paddle boats and more. Set sail into the stunning lakes and witness more of the soothing views of the landscapes.

The two sandy beaches in Promised Land serve as the perfect spots for a calming swimming experience. Set up a towel and swim in the designated swimming spots at the Pickerel Point Beach & Day  Use Picnic Area. 

  • Two Sand Beaches are open to the public from May to September half, 8am to Sunset. 
  • Note: There are no lifeguards on duty, be cautious while on water.

Cutting Through the Forests: Hiking & Biking Trails

Traverse through the picturesque cascades and scenic trails of the 50 miles of hiking trails in the Promised Land State Park. I must say that the park is definitely a hiker’s paradise, as you may witness and photograph wildlife and nature’s beauty

The possibilities for hiking in the park are completely endless, the wildlife was my favorite thing about these trails, you may spot from bald eagles to songbirds, black bears, rattle snakes and many others. My favorite and the best trails in the regions are:

Biking can also be done in Promised Land in PA, the 6.5 mile paved road around and between Promised Land Lake and Lower Lake Road is perfect for an exciting biking experience. Moreover, Delaware State Forest is right next door for you with mesmerizing biking trails. 

Camping & Picnicking in the Serene Woods

Delve into nature’s bliss and stay inside the heart of the Park, Promised Land Campgrounds in Pennsylvania offers just the right amount of serene and peaceful atmosphere for all the hitchhikers and tourists out there. The Lower Lake Campgrounds and Pickerel Point Campgrounds were my top two spots for Promised Land State Park, PA camping with my friends and family. 

If you are a person who loves to spend time outdoors just like in luxury, then I’m sure you will fall in love with nature’s playground camping spots. Now, a vacation can’t be fulfilled without one thing, that is picnics. A picnic along with friends or family or your lover can be such a pleasant feeling. In Promised Land, The Day Use Picnic Area is my very first choice for a humble day filled with laughter and love. Sometimes you may have to reserve a picnic spot in advance to avoid the hassle. They provide many niceties for the visitors like:

Things to Know Before Your Vacation at Promised Land

Now before heading out to the charming state park, there is some key information for you to keep in mind. Here are the pointers for you:

  • Location: The park is located in Pike County, which is 10 miles away north of Canadensis on PA Route 390. The park can also be accessed from the highways of interstate- 84 & 80.
  • Working Hours: The Park is open to the public on all days of the year, from morning till evening. 
  • There are several parking options available in Promised Land State Park with wheelchair accessibility. 
  • Always make sure you have all the necessary equipment for the particular activities you want to take part in, such as hiking, biking, boating, skiing and more.
