The only part about going out to eat that I absolutely despise, is having to leave my pet behind. I am sure every pet owner can relate, even when you are outside you can’t fully enjoy it because you’re thinking about how your pup is alone at home, sometimes making you wonder why more restaurants aren’t pet friendly. Well, times certainly are changing, more restaurants are starting to be accommodative of pets and many new pet-friendly establishments have begun to surface the streets of New York.

Tips for Dining With Your Special Paw-son
1. Make Sure Your Furry Friend is Well Behaved
You deserve to have a good time hanging out with your pet, and so does everyone else. If your pup isn’t trained yet or is known to be hyper around people, it may not be the right time to visit a public space with them since even the pup themself would be quite uncomfortable and unhappy.
2. Leash Up
It is pretty obvious for a multitude of reasons that you cannot let your dog off-leash in restaurants or cafes. Although a few dog friendly NYC restaurants encourage you let your pets off leash, most places don’t normally allow it as there are other customers trying to enjoy a meal as well.
3. Choose Your Seat Wisely
If your dog is trained but still gets restless around a crowd, you can scout the restaurant and pick a corner where your dog is comfortable and nobody else in the restaurant would be disturbed. Calling ahead and checking with restaurants about seating can really help in this case. Besides, most restaurants do not allow pets on seats, so you should choose a spot where your dog can be quite comfortable on the floor.
4. Take Care of Business
You certainly don’t want your little one to pee or poop at a communal eating area. Even if your pup is potty trained, make sure you’ve taken care of business before you dine out.
Winding Up
It is so nice to see an increasing number of dog friendly restaurants in New York City. As a pet owner myself I am always excited to try out new places and exciting new food items for my little one.
These New York restaurants are not only for your pets and that is my favorite thing about it, you can enjoy a delicious meal without having to compromise on your dog’s comfort or habits.
A visit to a cute and quirky pet cafe like Boris and Horton can make for a cute and memorable day with your dog, nothing makes me more happy than seeing my puppy wagging his tail and sticking his tongue out because of excitement.
So, what are you waiting for? Go, have a blast with your furry buddy in any of these amazing restaurants!
