Poconos may be known for its views, skiing and outdoors but it is also a place with a lot of history and culture. I enjoyed indulging myself in Poconos’ culture so much that I am here to recommend to you my favorites! 

Before Poconos was known as a holiday destination, it was occupied by Native Americans. Later on in the 1600s and 1700s Poconos was Occupied by Dutch, German and English settlers. It wasn’t until the 1800s that the first hotel was opened and that was the beginning of the booming resort industry of the Poconos today! 

Here are 7 art and culture related attractions in Poconos that I enjoyed, and hope that you will too!

The Shawnee Gallery

The Shawnee Gallery is located in the village of Shawnee in Delaware. The gallery displays various paintings, crafts and jewelry made by the locals, all of which are for sale. It is one of the renowned museums of Poconos! The gallery also conducts monthly workshops for writing, photography, ceramics, drawing and more.  The gallery is closed Monday-Thursday, so plan your visit accordingly. 

The Dorflinger Factory Museum

The Dorflinger Factory Museum is a local museum celebrating the history of the Dorflinger Glass Factories which manufactured exceptional crystal tableware for U.S presidents and many wealthy people of Brooklyn, New York in the 19th Century and early 20th Century. 

The museum itself is an old glass factory which has been preserved, it is also an example of the brilliant bluestone architecture of Pennsylvania.

The Poconos Art Council

The ARTSPACE Gallery is run by the Poconos Art Council. The Arts Council hosts plenty of exhibits, festivals and educational programs, by doing so they are keeping Poconos’ culture alive , and is located in Stroudsburg, PA.

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm

Quiet Valley Living Farm is a living farm preserving 19th century Pennsylvania German agricultural heritage. The exhibit is quite lively, where you will see people dressed as the German family that lived on the farm. The actors enact the chores and crafts of a 19th century farmer family. 

Mauch Chunk Museum

The  Mauch Chunk Museum is located in perhaps the most historical and in the heart of Poconos culture, Jim Thorpe. The museum’s exhibit focuses on showcasing the ages of the geological formation of coal through the years. It throws light on decline and revival, and the natural beauty and architecture of the Jim Thorpe we see today. The museum stays closed from January through March, so plan accordingly. 

White Mills Art Factory

The Art Factory is a community art center and offers some of the most exhilarating exhibits in Poconos. The gallery displays more than 1000 pieces of art, all created by local artists, you can see why it is called an art factory! They offer workshops and art classes and also art parties!

If art parties interest you, wait till you hear about paint and sip! That’s right, enjoy a glass (or more) The most relaxing thing you could do in Poconos, Painting!  of wine  while you paint! There are many establishments that offer paint and sip in Poconos

The Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center

The Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center was originally opened as an academy for music in 1884, later renovated into a movie theater; it was the first to show moving pictures in Monroe County. Today, the theater is a three screen theater and is often referred to as PC3. Alongside movies the center also puts on plenty of live shows. The Pocono Cultural Center is worth a visit, and make sure you catch a live show if you are able to visit!
